Walmart seller glossary

GTIN (Global Trade Item Number)

The universal product identifier — UPC, EAN, or ISBN — Walmart requires on every catalog listing.

GTINs are 8-14 digit barcodes used across the retail supply chain. Walmart cross-references the GTIN against the brand's GS1 license to validate that you're authorized to sell the product.

Counterfeit GTINs are a Walmart suspension risk. Buy GTINs only from GS1 directly (https://www.gs1.org/) or as an authorized brand reseller.

Private-label sellers issuing their own GTINs need a GS1 Company Prefix; resellers piggybacking on another brand's GTIN need invoices proving authentic sourcing.
